Mr. Goldby was Chairman and CEO of Symyx from 1998 to 2007, he became the Executive Chairman in 2008, and Chairman in 2009. Before joining Symyx, Mr. Goldby served as Chief Executive Officer for more than ten years at MDL Information Systems, Inc., the enterprise software company that pioneered scientific information management. Earlier, Mr. Goldby held various management positions at ALZA Corporation, including President of Alza Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Goldby received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He is currently a director of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals and Landec Corporation.
Isy Goldwasser was named Chief Executive Officer of Symyx Technologies, Inc. in 2007 and has served as President of Symyx since 1998. He became the first employee of Symyx Technologies in 1995 as Vice President, Corporate Development. Mr. Goldwasser is a named inventor on 28 U.S., European, German and Canadian patents. Mr. Goldwasser received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.
Stephen DeCherney has served as a Company director since 2008. Dr. DeCherney was employed from 2004 through 2008 by Quintiles Transnational Corporation, a contract research organization serving drug and medical device companies, as Chief Innovation Officer from March 2007 through March 2008, as President Clinical Research Organization, from October 2004 until March 2007. From February, 2000 until July, 2004 Dr. DeCherney was employed by PRA International, serving as Executive Vice President, Strategic Programs, from March, 2003 to July, 2004 and Executive Vice President of Global Clinical Operations from February, 2000 to March, 2003. Dr. DeCherney has been a Professor of Medicine (Adjunct) at the University of North Carolina since May, 2005.
Tim Harkness is the President and Chief Executive Officer of CellBiosciences, a private life sciences tools company focused on nano-proteomics. Mr. Harkness was most recently Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Nektar Therapeutics (Nasdaq: NKTR), a biopharmaceutical company. Mr. Harkness served as Chief Financial Officer of Molecular Devices Corp. (Nasdaq: MDCC), a global life sciences tools company, from 1998 through 2007 when the Company was acquired by Toronto based MDS, Inc. He also had responsibility for worldwide manufacturing and operations from 2005 through 2007 as Senior Vice President of Operations. From 1997 to 1998 Mr. Harkness was Vice President of Business Development at Vivra Specialty Partners, a physician practice management company. From 1994 to 1997 Mr. Harkness was in the Health Care Investment Banking group at Montgomery Securities and from 1989 to 1992 he was with Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Harkness serves on the board Symyx Technologies (Nasdaq:SMMX), a scientific software, systems and research company and on the board of ForteBio, a private life science tools company. Mr. Harkness holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, and is a CPA.
Dr. Hill is a Director of Hexcel Corporation where he serves on the Audit and Finance Committees. He was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Sun Chemical Corporation, a producer of printing inks and pigments, and also served as a Supervisory Board member of Sun Chemical Group B.V. Prior to joining Sun Chemical Corporation in 2001, Dr. Hill spent four years at JM Huber Corporation as President of Engineered Materials. From 1980-1997, Dr. Hill served at AlliedSignal Inc., where his last position was President of Specialty Chemicals. Dr. Hill began his career at Union Carbide Corporation in 1970, and has also been Director of Exploratory and New Ventures Research at Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Dr. Hill holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering as well as a M.S. in Engineering and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
From May of 2005 to May of 2007, Mr. Pasternack served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Special Olympics, Inc., a global non-profit organization for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Prior to joining Special Olympics, Inc., Mr. Pasternack spent more than 28 years at Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. where his last position was Senior Vice President and Managing Partner of its San Francisco office. He serves on the Board of Quantum Corp. and is a director at several non-profit organizations. Mr. Pasternack holds a B.E. from The Cooper Union and a M.S.E. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. van Ingen recently retired from his position as president of the Bio-Analytical Measurement business of Agilent Technologies, Inc, a position he had held since May 2001. Prior to assuming that position, Mr. van Ingen held a number of positions in Agilent Technologies Chemical Analysis Group, including Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 1996 to April 2001, Americas Marketing Center Manager from 1989 to 1996, Product Marketing Manager at the Avondale Division from 1986 to 1989, and Business Development Manager at the Avondale Division from 1984 to 1986.
